Commencing from 23 August 2021, Hong Kong companies will be allowed to withhold from public inspection the residential address of directors and full Identification Number of directors and company secretaries kept on the registers of directors and register of companies secretaries. Companies may instead make available for public inspection the correspondence address and partial Identification Numbers of directors and company secretaries.

Specified Persons who are able to apply for access to full personal data of directors and companies secretaries, include: certified public accountants (practicing), practicing solicitors in law firms and banks, Financial Institutions and designed non-financial businesses as professions, to which the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Ordinance (“AMLO”) applies. The use of personal information of directors obtained upon application shall be restricted to the performance of their professional duties. A person who misuses such personal information commits an offence.
